Pregnancy Weight Loss

Pregnancy Weight Loss

This may sound weird for most of you. Yes, it is quite rare to hear about the pregnancy weight loss. Most of you might be aware that losing weight while pregnant is not advisable according to the medical professionals. At most times, even the overweight and obese women are advised to gain weight.

However, there are certain things you should do in order to prevent gaining unnecessary weight during pregnancy. This reading will provide you with an insight about this.Strictly No Diet:

You should never try to diet while you are pregnant unless and until your doctor specifically tells you to do so. This is because; your body and child will require specific nutrition that must to be met during pregnancy.

If you are going to diet, you are going to risk nutritional deficiencies. The better way is to talking with your doctor about your weight before and after becoming pregnant in order to develop a healthy eating habit and exercise programs. Do not ever start a weight loss regimen after you are finding
that you are pregnant.

Know When and What:

As mentioned above, weight loss is not recommended during pregnancy. But, you must know that many women lose their weight during their first trimester. This is fairly normal.

This is mainly because of nausea and vomiting which is known as morning sickness. It might be difficult for you to keep food down and eat normal meals during the first trimester. This is quite natural. You need not worry about it.

Start Your Steps Well Before:

If you are overweight, I would recommend you to talk with your doctor about the healthy way for losing weight if you are intending to become pregnant.

This is because; having a high body mass index would run you to have a higher risk of high blood pressure and diabetes during your pregnancy period.

This will also lead to some problems during the childbirth and your child is more likely to be premature requiring special care in neonatal intensive care unit. Hence, losing weight before being conceived is very much essential.

Understand Your Calories Better:

You must be in a position to understand your caloric needs during your pregnancy. If you have started at a normal weight before pregnancy, you will require an average of 300 additional calories in a day during your second and third trimesters.

Hence, you should consume around 1900 to 2500 calories daily. You must remember that consuming more calories than recommended would lead to an unhealthy weight gain.

Nutritional Requirements:

Yes, it is true that there is no particular diet for pregnancy. But, your doctor may recommend particular guidelines depending upon your health and needs.

At most times, folic acid or folate will be essential as they can avoid birth defects. Foods such as leafy greens, citrus fruits and dried beans are the major sources of folate.

You can also try peas and fortified cereals for getting the required folate. Prenatal vitamins also can supply with the daily requirements of folic acid. I would suggest you to avoid the supplements which will provide you with excess of vitamin A, D, E and K.

Avoid Unhealthy Foods:

You must strictly avoid empty calories as well as unhealthy foods when you are pregnant. This is because; the empty calories will lead to unnecessary increase in weight when at the same time, they won’t provide your baby with any nutrients.

Hence, avoiding empty calories is much vital to maintain during your pregnancy. As such you must avoid foods containing added sugars and solid fats. Instead opt for low fat and fat-free options.
